Spotify, the popular music streaming service, experienced a temporary outage on Sunday morning, leaving thousands of users unable to access their favorite tunes and podcasts. The issue was reported by more than 40,000 people on downdetector.com, a website that tracks problems with popular apps and services. Users took to social media to express their frustration, with many complaining that the outage had disrupted their workout routines and plans to stream playlists at events like birthday parties.
Spotify acknowledged the issue on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!”
The outage affected both the Spotify app and website, with users experiencing difficulties loading content and playing music. Attempts to visit the website resulted in server errors, while the app remained unresponsive for many.
Spotify experiences a brief outage
Spotify, which boasts over 626 million users, including 246 million subscribers, is no stranger to occasional outages. In March 2022, users reported issues with logging in, but the problems were resolved within an hour and a half. Despite these intermittent issues, Spotify continues to grow its user base.
In the second quarter of this year, the company reported a record quarterly net profit of €274 million on revenue of €3.81 billion, a 20% increase year over year. Approximately an hour after acknowledging the outage, Spotify posted an update on X, stating, “Everything’s looking much better now!” The app and website appeared to be functioning normally once again, much to the relief of its millions of users worldwide.
