Few picks are free with 1001 Ringtones Lite

If you ever wanted to have the soothing hum of AK-47 gunfire or an unceasing cackle as your ring tone then look no further than 1001 Ringtones Lite. If you have any taste, then take a pass on the iPhone application.

This “free” app allows you to download a mere three ring tones from its 250-ring library for free. To access the full 1,001-tone library, you have to pay 99 cents. Though the majority of the ring tones can be characterized as one of a kind, I was put off by the false advertising of the app. Even with the nominal download cost, I was disappointed with the quality of the selections.

I’ll put it this way: When you hear an obnoxious ring tone on the bus or in a movie theater, chances are the culprit downloaded it from 1001 Ringtones Lite. The most time you’ll want to spend on this application is when you remove it from your iPhone.

On the positive side, the app has some conveniences, including the relative ease with which the ring tone is sent to your email address. You then drop it in your iTunes library and sync your phone. Despite my effortless downloading experience, the app warns that your ring tone could get sent to your spam folder or caught up in your spam filter, so watch out.
