Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem – Classic Characters With Poor Curve

Everyone remembers Loony Tunes – the colourful violence, the zany characters, how all of them were constantly battling with special abilities. Oh, wait; that’s just Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem.

Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem is a role-playing game all about collecting and battling with Loony Tunes characters. You begin with the ever infamous Bugs Bunny and progress onwards to picking up all sorts of different characters. Each character conforms to one of three character types: Defender, for protecting your team and withstanding damage; Support, for healing your team; and Damage Dealer for dealing as much damage as possible.

The game is decidedly linear, with consistent progress forwards through the campaign so as to unlock new creatures by battling.

The battles are the primary component of the gameplay, with the player controlling multiple characters and balancing the team so as to best defeat the enemy team. There are absolutely scores and scores of available Loony Tunes creatures available, with a multitude of different options to choose from, giving the player a vast array of challenges. Though the battles are the primary focus, the real objective of Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem is to encourage you to buy their loot boxes. Through levels ups, lucky drops from enemies and purchasing loot boxes, you can access special characters with more advanced abilities that can turn the tide of combat in your favor.

The main benefits of Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem is the beautiful, intricate animations and sound effects attached to the characters’ moves. Instead of just simply attacking the enemies with a boring animation, your characters will actually execute whatever insane move they have – in Bugs Bunny’s case, he can smack them with a giant mallet after climbing through a tunnel, or throw a safe on them. Despite the sheer quality of these animations, however, Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem suffers from a serious problem of pacing. The beginning of the claim is pretty clear and consistent with its desired progress, allowing the player to maneuver and progress quite easily with simple battles, but the difficulty picks up massively.

Eventually, you will reach a point wherein you’ll be required to wait until daily quests become available, so as to provide you with the currency necessary to unlock new characters and upgrade your existing ones, so as to keep pace with the increasing challenge of the enemies. This is a pretty standard pacing mechanism, but in Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem it is out of alignment, forcing the player to struggle through with frustration and irritation.[sc name=”quote” text=”This is a pretty standard pacing mechanism, but in Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem it is out of alignment, forcing the player to struggle through with frustration and irritation.”]

Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem is a solid game for lovers of Loony Tunes – it has got wacky animations, fun characters and silly antics, but as a solid ARG it lacks the necessary meat and pacing to keep a true lover of this gameplay still playing.

[review pros=”The animations are gorgeous and fit the characters very well.” cons=”There is a serious lack of intelligent pacing. The entire game experience is reliant on artificial waiting to drive up the difficulty curve.” score=4.0]
