Take the checkered flag with Formula 1 Live Racing

If you’re as much of a motor sports fan as I am, then Formula 1 Live Racing is for you.

This high-octane sports app provides everything a Formula 1 fan needs to follow their favorite drivers and teams each race weekend. From live commentary to lap-by-lap timing and scoring and real-time leaderboards, it’s a perfect supplement to watching the action on TV.

When star drivers such as Kimi Räikkönen, Lewis Hamilton or Jenson Button aren’t tearing up the F1 circuit, there’s plenty of useful features to browse through, including up-to-date news, photos and championship standings.

There’s even detailed statistics from each 2009 race, plus event and lap record information on each of the 17 F1 circuits.

While all of this information is readily available on the Internet, whether through sports Web sites or dedicated F1 news portals, it’s quite handy having it all at your fingertips on an iPhone or iPod Touch.

The mobility factor is what makes this app stand out from other F1 apps such as F1 Insider 2009. Everything you need is packed into a single, easy-to-navigate interface. There’s no need to load multiple browsers to find news, results and photos. The only downside is the app’s lack of detailed race analysis.

Formula 1 Live Racing, like nearly every free app on the market today, utilizes a small pop-up ad at the bottom of the screen.

But if F1 fans can live through that minor distraction, this app is a true winner.
