Awesome Apps for Beer Fanatics

Beer has been given more credit in recent years in the sense that you can be a beer snob as well. Here are some beer apps to gain the sudsy knowledge to graduate past keg parties.

Beer Buddy (iOS, Android)

Beer Buddy is basically what it says in the name: it is the perfect beer companion. The app gives you access to millions of user reviews about beers from all around the world. You no longer have to stand in a store for ages trying to decide which beer to buy, using the camera on your phone you can scan the barcode of any beer and it will show you reviews and information about that beer.

You can also use the app to search for a particular beer within your area, meaning you no longer have to search a city looking for that beer that you had at a restaurant last week and absolutely loved. If all of that wasn’t enough, you can also create lists of your favourite beers and beers that you want to try in the future.

Untapped (iOS, Android)

Drinking just became even more social with the help of Untapped, a social platform just for beers, really what could be better. You can share your favourite beers, breweries and bars with friends, as well as receiving notifications when your favourite venues have new beers on their menu.

You can also collect badges to show that you have explored beers from different countries and of different styles to really show that you’re a beer connoisseur.

Fiz: Brewery Management Game (iOS, Android)

Every beer lover has dreamed of brewing their own beer and now you can with Fiz, a game that allows you to run your own brewery. You start off with a basic beer making kit in your garage and slowly work your way to running a world-class brewery. The game includes a lot of nice details including more than 60 recipes to discover; random events and competition to show off your beer brewing skills.

BeerMenus (iOS, Android)

This is a simple but useful app to help find any beer in your local area. You can easily search for your favourite beer and the app will show you everywhere in your area where it is being sold. To make searching even easier you can create lists of your favourite beers. You can also view up-to-date menus for local bars and restaurants because there is nothing worse than walking into a bar only to find that there is nothing on the menu you want to drink and having to awkwardly walk out.

Brewery Passport – Craft Beer Finder (iOS)

Brewery Passport is the ideal app for beer lovers who also like to travel. Not only can you access information about local beers and breweries but you can also stamp your virtual passport at every place you drink, you can then add tasting notes and photos to your beer journal. Once you have done all of this you can share your journal on Facebook so that your pals back home can follow your beer adventures.

BrewGene (iOS, Android)

Another beer deciding app that’s informative, well designed and best of all free. With over 40,000 different types of beer you can rate after trying them, you won’t have to remember off the top of your head which to order from a bar when you’re there, this app will do it for you!

iBeer (iOS, Android)

Want a drink without the hassle of actually drinking? Try iBeer, an iPhone application. It simulates the action of taking a swig, froth sloshing and all. The only problem is that it gets old after a couple rounds. The app acts just like a drink. Hold your iPhone in your hand, tilt it back, and “gulp” it down. Shake your iPhone to make your beer extra frothy. There’s even a burping sound effect when you finish off your drink.

Bonus features from app creator HotTrix include a mouthwash gag, a dirty glass effect, and multi-level foam. But unless you’ve had a few actual beers, the novelty of iBeer can wane after a while. Not to mention, most of your friends have probably seen this app more times than they care to admit. To get over this sobering fact, try one of HotTrix’ other apps for drinking milk or downing popcorn. Developer HotTrix hasn’t diminished its enthusiasm for this gag app however, as it sued beer company Coors for creating a similar simulation app.
