New iPhone apps worth downloading: Beats Music, Mileage Assistant, Shadow Blade

Today’s first app worth downloading, Beats Music, offers a different take on music streaming. The app provides you with access to some 20 million songs, but tailors them to what you’re doing, how you’re feeling and who you’re with. We’ve also got Mileage Assistant, an app for tracking your driving mileage so you can put it on your taxes or expense it to your company. Lastly is Shadow Blade, a side-scrolling platformer in which you play a ninja fighting to get through levels as fast as possible.

Beats Music (Free)

What’s it about? Beat Music is a streaming music app that brings users songs tailored to their situation, based on what they’re doing and who they’re with.

What’s cool? Lots of services let you stream from a database of tons of songs to find whatever its you want to hear at any given moment – but what if you don’t know what you want to hear, or what’s appropriate? Beats Music is a streaming service that looks to fix that problem. It lets you stream music from its own huge database of music, with more than 20 million songs, but it leverages music experts to help provide you with tracks that fit your situation, as you define it with a feature called “The Sentence.” You let the app know who you’re with, how you feel and what you’re doing, and Beats Music does the rest. You can also keep up with music news, find music from particular expert curators, and share your favorite tracks.

Who’s it for? If you’re looking for a new streaming service, try Beats Music, which is offering the first week of a subscription for free.

Mileage Assistant (Free)

What’s it about? Easily record the miles you drive in your car and expense them to your company or keep track of them for your taxes with Mileage Assistant.

What’s cool? Lots of us drive as part of our jobs, and Mileage Assistant can help those people make sure they’re able to accurately expense those miles or write them off. The app lets you track your mileage and save locations with Google Maps so that you can get an accurate depiction of the mileage you’ll be driving, and lets you set custom reimbursement rates so that you can export your mileage as a .csv file instantly. You’re also able to create quick expense reports by setting tracking dates in the app for exporting your mileage.

Shadow Blade ($1.99)

What’s it about? Rip through enemy ninjas, climb walls, avoid spikes and use other ninja skills to sprint through side-scrolling levels in Shadow Blade.

What’s cool? Platformer Shadow Blade is all about speed. Your goal in each level is to jump, run, vault and slice your way through as fast as you can, and your score is based on how quickly and efficiently you can get around obstacles and enemies using ninja skills. You’ll have to wall-jump up to higher locations and slice through enemies before they have a chance to attack you, as well as execute other attack moves in order to keep moving. Shadow Blade includes 40 levels to challenge yourself with, and they all have hidden secrets for you to find off the beaten path.

Who’s it for? Fans of side-scrolling platformers, speed runs and ninjas should get Shadow Blade a shot.
