Crowdtilt is a great new app for funding personal projects, fundraisers, or parties, specifically between your own family and friends rather than e-begging the whole of the internet. Shadow Puppet is a photo storytelling app that lets you narrate and describe each photo, walking people through your vacation photos without even seeing them in person. Chainsaw Warrior is an excellent, brutal digital reimagining of a 1987 board game that has you saving New York from Darkness.
Crowdtilt (Free)
What’s it about? Create your own personal crowdfunding campaigns for you, and your family and friends.
What’s cool? Crowd funding has been a huge trend since 2012, blowing up with popular projects like Double Fine’s Broken Age. But maybe you don’t want to launch a massive game and spit in the face of doubting video game publishers. Maybe you just want to fund a yacht party, or a weekend getaway, or a hilarious but expensive prank. That’s what Crowdtilt is for. You can collect donations from family and friends, support various non-profit campaigns, or set it so that costs are split evenly between the number of people who join, or that no one pays unless goals are met vis-a-vis Kickstarter. Plus you can see what friends and family are supporting, and all the social network sharing stuff is present too.
Who’s it for? People who love organizing big events, but don’t make hundreds of thousands a year.
What’s it like? Apps like Splitwise or Divvy also let you split bills and other costs.
Shadow Puppet (Free)
What’s it about? Use your voice to talk people through the story of your photographs as if creating your own puppet show.
What’s cool? The idea is that you always talk people through your camera roll in person anyway, so why not pre-record that stuff and just send it to all your friends and family, further removing the human element from your life, as this technology is so good at doing. I kid, mostly, but this is a neat idea. Whether you want to actually talk everyone through the stories behind your vacation photos, or that time you saw something weird in the Wal-mart parking lot, this app is very cool. As a kid, I’d use this to actually create stories and such using my action figures, so this app is useful for everyone.
Who’s it for? People who want to share their photos and also tell the stories behind them.
What’s it like? PhotoStory and ComicBook! also aim to make your photos more story oriented.
Chainsaw Warrior ($4.99)
What’s it about? A classic board game that’s basically an amalgamation of some of the most popular cult pulp fiction of its time, revived on iOS.
What’s cool? The original board game, released in 1987, had you as the chainsaw warrior, a shadowy ex-special forces soldier, fight through a mutant/zombie filled New York, trying to reach the dimensional rift that spawned these monsters at the center, and kill the mysterious force controlling them known only as Darkness. There are tons of twisted enemies to brutally fight through, and you only have sixty minutes before New York is dragged into the dimensional rift and destroyed. It’s a very cool, very difficult board game that references all kinds of cult horror/action flicks.
Who’s it for? People who like board games, zombies, mutants, cult horror, and cybernetically enhanced warriors.
What’s it like? Some other popular Board/Card games turned digital include Neuroshima Hex and Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer.
