Lums ($0.99)
What’s it about? Use strange creatures to combat invading vampires in Lums, an arcade puzzler that’s similar to Angry Birds, but successfully riffs on the formula.
What’s cool? Vampires have invaded the homeworld of the lums in Lums, and they’ve also managed to block out the sun. Your goal throughout the course of the side-scrolling arcade puzzle title is to eliminate the vampires, while also collecting stars and trying to earn as many points as possible. You knock out the vampires by exposing them to light sources; in each stage, you’ll need to use your different lums for different purposes. Some can knock over structures, others can create light sources, and so on. Puzzles get tougher over time with some 48 levels to play through, as you’ll need to avoid obstacles like glass structures and lasers that can take out your lums before they finish the job.
Who’s it for? Arcade game fans and those who enjoy puzzles will find a solid mix of both elements here; you should also check out Lums if you’re into Angry Birds-like games.
What’s it like? Don’t forget to try Angry Birds Star Wars, which has a lot of similarities to Lums in the special abilities of its characters.
Twin Moons (Free)
What’s it about? A hidden object adventure game, Twin Moons takes players through the story of a man who loses his memory and isn’t sure who to trust.
What’s cool? Twin Moons protagonist Jack was a researcher at the Twin Moons Institute, before a car accident robbed him of his memory. Now, he has to find the answers to the questions he has about what happened to him before the accident – and he has to determine if he can trust his friends, colleagues, and even fiancee. Twin Moons is a hidden object adventure game, which means players solve puzzles by locating objects in each of the game’s 51 levels. The game is free to download and try, but you’ll need to pay to unlock the full adventure.
Who’s it for? Fans of intriguing stories, point-and-click adventure games and hidden object puzzles should find Twin Moons to include lots of challenging gameplay.
What’s it like? Grab developer G5’s The Secret Society, another hidden object title, and the very popular puzzler The Room.
