Here are three great iPhone and iPad apps to download. NMHMC Harvey garnered some publicity upon its launch as it lets users investigate the neuroanatomy of Nobel Prize-winning physicist Albert Einstein’s brain. Scape is a new musical experiment from Brian Eno and Peter Chilvers following up on the success of their original app, Bloom. Meanwhile, EA released the latest installment in their hugely popular FIFA Soccer franchise and it’s better than ever.
NMHMC Harvey ($9.99, iPad only)
What’s it about? Ever wanted to find out what it was really like in Albert Einstein’s brain? With NMHMC Harvey you can.
What’s cool? This new iPad app allows you to examine the Nobel Prize-winning physicist’s neuroanatomy. Dr. Thomas Harvey was the pathologist who performed the autopsy on Albert Einstein at Princeton Hospital on April 18, 1955. He removed the brain for study, segmented it, and then sectioned those parts into hundreds of microscope sections. Now it has been digitized for everyone to enjoy.
Who is it for? This app will be fascinating to anyone interested in science, neuroscience or just intrigued by the possibility of examining the intricacies of the brain of a genius. It mainly has an educational focus, as it’s from the National Museum of Health + Medicine Chicago, but all profits from the app will support the museum both there and in Maryland.
What’s it like? There are some other interesting anatomy apps available including the ones from 3D4Medical like Brain & Nervous System Pro III, but it lacks the curiosity factor of NMHMC Harvey.
Scape ($5.99, iPad only)
What’s it about? If you owned one of the original iPhones, you may remember the excitement around Brian Eno’s ambient music/art app Bloom. Scape is its iPad-only follow-up.
What’s cool? Along with Peter Chilvers, Eno’s new creation is a new form of album which offers users deep access to its musical elements. You can create ‘sonic spaces’ by recombining these various elements. There are 15 original scapes and your creations can be saved to your gallery or to your playlists. Naturally, headphones are highly recommended!
Who is it for? Fans of Brian Eno’s ambient music, or who got a kick out of Bloom, will most likely enjoy this new experiment. Eno once again demonstrates he’s ahead of the curve and embracing new technology to showcase his creative side.
What’s it like? We already mentioned Bloom of course, but Scape also resembles other sonic playground apps like Thicket or creative audiovisual generators like Zio.
FIFA Soccer 13 ($6.99)
What’s it about? Another year, another version of FIFA Soccer from EA. Once again, this one tops the previous offerings.
What’s cool? FIFA Soccer 13 is more realistic than ever with its impressive graphics and atmosphere. The new skill button lets you show off your favorite tricks and you can challenge your friends online via multiplayer. Featuring 30 leagues, 500 licensed teams, and more than 15,000 players from the popular European and world leagues, you can play in 32 different stadiums around the world.
Who is it for? Soccer fans will obviously get a kick (sorry) out of this one. Every year, the folks at EA continue to refine and improve their FIFA games, as they do with their other sports franchises.
What’s it like? FIFA faces some stiff competition in the iTunes App Store from the likes of Real Soccer 2012 and PES 2012 – Pro Evolution Soccer.
