There is not much to the app. There are two buttons used to record in two different languages, making it possible to have back and forth conversations with someone foreign to yourself. You can toggle recording sessions, or automatically detect the end of your speech. Simple words and phrases will also bring up dictionary results. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to talk to people just anywhere. You need a constant Internet connection, making it harder to use while traveling when you might need it most.
Other than technical issues like this, the app is quite impressive, with over 30 available languages. There are a handful that have no voice recognition support, such as Arabic and Greek. The actual accuracy of translations can be very hit and miss. Obviously, the app has issues recognizing fictional terms and names such as Thor, Legolas and Darth Vader, but otherwise it does fine. I had a lot of trouble with languages like Russian, too. It’s not perfect, but it’s still very cool.
