Try a new brand of messaging with today’s top Fresh App, Jumvo. Instead of texting, it allows you to send short audio clips, such as voice messages, back and forth with your friends, making it safer than texting while doing other activities. We’ve also got Luminance, a quick and easy photo editor with multiple filters that can be mixed and matched. In games, Flick Soccer! is all about kicking goals, but with your finger, and Pickpawcket requires you to avoid getting spotted by museum guards as you steal back paintings.
Jumvo (iPhone, iPad) Free
Group messaging app Jumvo takes a different stab at sending messages to your friends. Instead of providing the ability to send texts or photos, Jumvo lets you record short audio clips and send them as if they were SMS messages. The clips are easy to record and don’t even require you to hit a button – just raise your device to your mouth and start talking.
Jumvo contains the ability to send group messages and also allows non-Jumvo users to receive messages without requiring them to have the app themselves. It also allows users to communicate in text messaging style without having to type, which makes it safer than texting while driving or doing other activities.
Luminance (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
If you spend a lot of time shooting photos with your iPhone or iPad, you might want to pick up the super-cheap photo editing app, Luminance. It contains a lot of simple-to-use standard photo editing capabilities and allows you to edit one or multiple photos quickly and easily.
Luminance includes nine different filters and allows you to add adjustments to your photos in layers, so you can rearrange them and mix them together. It also contains built-in presets and allows you to copy your edits from one photo and paste them on other photos. When you’re done, you can share your photos through email or even on Facebook.
Flick Soccer! (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Turn your finger into a foot with Flick Soccer!, a game that’s all about kicking soccer goals and beating goalies. The controls are simple: swipe to aim and flick your finger at the ball to kick it. Curving the flick curves the ball, and swiping while the ball is in the air can cut it in a different direction quickly, giving you an extra edge.
You get five different game modes in Flick Soccer!, each requiring a different strategy and brand of play. There’s a quick play mode that’ll test how many points you can score in a certain amount of time; a challenge mode in which you’ll need to hit certain portions of the goal to score points; and a sudden death mode that requires players to score in certain areas of the goal in order to stay “alive.” With solid graphics and great, easy gameplay, Flick Soccer! is fun and pretty addictive.
Pickpawcket (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Sneak past guard dogs to steal back art for cat society in Pickpawcket, a puzzle game that’s all about avoiding getting spotted. You play a cat-burglar (get it?) on a mission to liberate paintings from a dog-run museum. To grab the paintings, you have to move around the level using touch controls and avoid wandering into the dogs’ lines of sight. Don’t get spotted and you can snag the paintings (and some extra jewels) to advance.
The trick in each level is to score as many points as possible, both by collecting three gems that are hard to reach, and by grabbing the painting and getting out as quickly. There are 60 levels that get progressively harder as you play, and you’ll use tools like a dog suit disguise to beat troublesome areas. The game also includes achievements and leaderboards from Game Center.
