Sure, Instagram is a cool social networking service. It allows you to take, edit and filter photos all within the app, and the results are pretty cool on their own – but it also includes the ability to share them with Instagram friends quickly and easily, or post them on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and a number of other services.
Instabam is also a social networking app and it piggybacks on Instagram a bit, but rather than relying on using an online-only Facebook-style network, it finds Instagram images that are physically near you by using the GPS capabilities of your device and the geotagging features of Instagram. You can see all kinds of photos nearby your location, and adjust the distance around you from which images are pulled to increase or decrease how many results you get and how close by they were taken.

Spiff up your Facebook profile using Profile Pro, an app that lets you customize how the world sees your information by adjusting your profile pictures and other elements of your page online. The app includes editing tools so you can customize your photos on the fly, and you can choose from images that are in your device’s camera roll or already on your Facebook page.
Profile Pro lets you create presets for your page so you can quickly make the same changes in the future if you want, and allows you to make profile image sets (those pictures that cross the top of your Facebook page) quickly and easily by rotating, editing, moving and adjusting your photos.
The Heist (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
From the makers of Mac Heist comes an iOS version of the game called The Heist. You’re working to crack a vault through the course of the game, and you’ll do so by solving 60 puzzles of varying types and difficulty. Solving enough puzzles in one difficulty across multiple different types opens more that are tougher, and so on until all are solved.
There are four different brands of puzzle to solve in The Heist, and they stay challenging the whole way through. Best of all, developer Tap Tap Tap promises…well, something when you get to the end of all those puzzles. Something free. Something possibly real. We haven’t gotten all the way through it yet to find out exactly what it is, but the game alone is worth a buck, regardless of what the bonus is at the end.
D-Capitatrix (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
You might have heard of the popular games Portal and Portal 2 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Those games involve a lot of 3D physics puzzles in which players can place two portals on the walls of the rooms they are in, and travel between them instantly – if you step into one portal, you come out the other. D-Capitatrix is a 2D, small-scale version of the Portal formula, using the same wormhole formula of manipulating two portals that instantly transport objects from one to the other.
Like Portal, D-Capitatrix is a puzzle game that packs some smart, imaginative and challenging ideas. Portals are moved to certain walls by touching and dragging them, but a portal doesn’t move until you lift your finger. Players are charged with collecting objects from each level by tilting their devices to roll a disembodied robot head around the room. The idea is to gather batteries to charge the robots’ bodies, then reunite the heads with them.
