City of Secrets (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
One of the game genres in which the iPhone and iPad excel is the point-and-click adventure genre, which consists of games that have players touching objects on the screen to use to solve puzzles in the context of a story. Telltale Games has some popular ones in Back to the Future and Secret of Monkey Island, and City of Secrets joins their ranks with an imaginative art style and interesting story.
Featuring a heavy emphasis on the story at hand and including spoken dialog throughout to help tell it, City of Secrets is free for a limited time and is filled with puzzles based on the scenery on the screen and the tale being told.
Pandora War (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
An entry in the “castle defense” category of games, Pandora War requires players to fight off waves of enemies as they charge across a 2D field toward the player’s temple at the far right side. That temple can be destroyed by too many enemies getting through, so the player can use magic powers to kill bad guys as well as monsters and mercenaries of his or her own in defense.
Pandora War is waged by choosing special offensive magic spells from the game’s menu and using them against enemies by tapping them. Tornadoes, lightning and fire spells are your weapons against your enemies, and you can also deploy soldiers to fight on your behalf.
Ozone (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $2.99)
Ozone has you navigating mazes as a ball of gas that expels air in order to propel it forward. You’ll have to carefully tap your way through the maze, making sure to only fire off as much air and you need to without overdoing it, because if you run out, you’ll die.
Navigating Ozone’s more than 50 levels will require precision movements and skill, as well as logic. You’ll have to deflate your gas ball to fit through some corridors and manage your resources to find a place to refill. There are also obstacles to dodge and enemies you can take on with various weapons.
