NBA Jam was one of my favorite games back in the days of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and it has become one of my favorite iOS titles on the market right now. It still doesn’t have multiplayer (c’moooon, EA!), but it has been updated recently to tweak its gameplay and update its roster against the current state of the NBA. Since it’s just so much fun, NBA Jam and its update lead today’s Fresh Games list. We found a couple of other interesting titles, so read about them below, as well.
NBA Jam update (iPhone, iPad) $4.99
EA Mobile has done great job of updating the 1990s classic arcade basketball experience with its recent remake of NBA Jam, and nothing has been lost in bringing the game over to iOS — it’s just as easy to control and play as ever, and it’s similarly hilarious, with a goofy 2D graphical style applied to the faces of real basketball players. The game is great fun, and it’s only made better because EA pays attention to the world of NBA basketball.
Speaking of the NBA, the game’s recent update is all about what’s going on in basketball this year. EA has updated the roster of each team to reflect the real world. Now you can construct league-accurate two-on-two games complete with flaming slam dunks. The game has also been tweaked to basically run better — which is always welcome.
Snowboard Hero (iPhone, iPad) $4.99
Some impressive 3D graphics and tilt- and touch-based gameplay await in Snowboard Hero, an award-winning iOS snowboarding simulator. You’ll run down various slopes by tilting your device left or right to steer, and tapping, holding and swiping to do jumps and perform tricks. Completing tricks equates to boost, which allows you to go faster and complete runs more quickly.
Each course has a different goal in mind — be it slaloming, performing tricks or maintaining speed. Game Center support means you also get to earn achievements and measure your point totals against players around the world on the game’s leaderboards. And as you earn money for performing well in each event, you’ll be able to unlock new characters and purchase newer equipment to perform even better on your runs.
City of Secrets (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
Telltale Games’ Back to the Future Episode 3 hit the Internet for PC and Mac, and unfortunately, iPad players are still stuck only with Episode 1 of the five-part game so far. Fortunately, Telltale’s adventure game isn’t the only one on the market — there are also titles like City of Secrets, a tap-based puzzle adventure with a heavy emphasis on story.
City of Secrets features 3D graphics and spoken dialogue throughout. It’s only a buck for a limited time, so if adventure titles with logic puzzles sound like fun, now’s the time to give this one a shot before the price jumps.
