Nathan Carter (@nathancarter5) is a new Appolicious member from Boston who jumped right in and created a great list about his favorite puzzle games.
1. Tell us about yourself – where you live, your job, things you like to do.
I’m a math professor in the greater Boston area, and like to play music, play with my kids, and play an occasional video game.
2. Which iOS device or devices do you own?
I have an iPod Touch instead of an iPhone because I’m too cheap for monthly bills. I have an iPad that actually belongs to my employer, but I’m its… caretaker.
3. Is there a particular category of apps that interests you the most?
I like apps I can use in the classroom, like AccelMeter for doing velocity and acceleration demos, or games that make me think, like the ones on my Puzzle Games list.
4. What are your top 3-5 apps and why?
Besides the ones that Apple includes on the device, which I use a lot, I’ll say Pandora (with the iPod in a nice speaker dock), GoodReader (connected to my DropBox), Twitter (great interface), Infinity Blade (wow), and my favorite app (um, totally biased) is one I just finished writing, a game called Spins 3D Puzzle (very excited to have it in the App Store!).
5. What apps are popular among your colleagues and friends?
A colleague strongly recommended to me Aji Annotate PDF for reading and responding to articles, memos, or student homework, but I think GoodReader beats it now that it has high-quality PDF annotation capabilities.
6. Give an example of a time an app was truly useful to you.
I’m absentminded and don’t remember anything when I travel, like what plane I’m supposed to get on, hotel to go to, etc. So I just print all those confirmation emails to PDFs in a special Dropbox folder, then mark them as “favorite” in the Dropbox app on my devices, so I have access to them offline. Then, I just reference them when I get to the airport, off the plane, etc.
7. What other Appolicious member do you admire the most and why?
I just joined so I’m looking forward to getting to know the community. I’m still just starting to meet people.
8. Do you have a blog, Twitter, Facebook, app etc. URL’s you’d like to share?
I tweet only a little bit, but I’m @nathancarter5. My favorite person to follow is @notch, an indie game developer who created the hit Minecraft. And, I’ve already plugged my own 3D puzzle app.
9. Anything else you’d like to share with the Appolicious audience?
Just that I only recently found out about Appolicious and what it does, and I think it’s a great idea to find apps this way, so I’m glad I joined up!
