So Tap Tap Revenge, if you don’t already know, is a music game kind of like Guitar Hero or Dance Dance Revolution that focuses on rhythm. The goal is you select a song and then tap along to the beat (or shake left and right as the arrows fall), and the challenge is keeping up with the rhythm as you continue to climb the ladder in levels. Now, fans of the 90s grunge band Nirvana can play the role of Kurt Cobain in the When I clicked on “Career,” only the songs “Breed” and “Lithium” came up, but then when I pressed “more songs,” a bunch of additional tunes came up, including several live versions. Whatever song you choose, you have the option of playing the game at four different levels: easy, medium, hard, or extreme. After a round, which ends when the song does, you get a score and then can retry, play more, or challenge a friend.
Other highlights of this game include: the extra-explanatory tutorial they provide you with, the lengthy bio of the band’s history, and battle mode where you can either host or join a game against nearby opponents via Bluetooth. And not to be overlooked, the “Nightly Nirvana” sound bites featured at the beginning of certain songs where members of the band share behind the scenes moments. A classic interview clip comes at the beginning of “Heart Shaped Box” when Kurt Cobain is quoted saying: “I really don’t know what the definition of selling out is anymore; I guess I really don’t care.” Touché.
