First of all, to use the MobileMe Gallery iPhone app (free), you’ve got to have a MobileMe account.
Since you probably do, the MobileMe Gallery iPhone app allows you to access right from your iPhone to all of the photos and movies you’ve got stored on MobileMe. You can email links to specific galleries to friends and family who are dying to see the latest photos of your kids, your dog, or your vacation, without them having to download every photo.
Tap on “My Gallery” on the iPhone app, and you’ll see a list of all of the events that have been uploaded to your MobileMe account, as well as a nice scrolling slideshow of thumbnails drifting along at the top. A quick tap on a photo or event you want to view takes you right to the larger version. Pinch to zoom in or out, swipe to move to the next photo.
A nice feature of the MobileMe Gallery iPhone app is being able to add friends by either entering their MobileMe member name or by choosing from contacts. Choose contacts, and a list of all of your contacts that have MobileMe accounts is shown (you can add whomever you please, but in order to view their photos, they have to have uploaded pics to their MobileMe account and made them publicly viewable).
The only thing really missing in the MobileMe Gallery iPhone app is the ability to add photos to your galleries from the iPhone itself. You’d have to sync and upload your iPhone pics to iPhoto and then to MobileMe. But who wants to show off those fuzzy shots anyway? High-res, baby!
I usually only use MobileMe to store documents, but I’ll be adding more photos now that I can view and share them from my iPhone.
