ETA iPhone app wins you over immediately

The ETA iPhone app ($1.99) claims to “provide you [with] accurate arrival times and optimal routes based on current traffic conditions,” and it does. This iPhone app is no frills, does exactly what it says it will, and does it well. You can choose from “airports” or “favorites” —the three closest airports to your current location are automatically plugged into your phone, and in “favorites,” you can add locations yourself and save for easy future reference.

Once you type in or pull up your destination, the arrival time, route (you click here for step-by-step directions), traffic delay time, travel time, and distance are displayed. To get updated travel times, simply shake your phone and it will adjust accordingly. Not bad when trying to get somewhere in a pinch and looking to plan wisely.

The best feature is by far the combo travel, traffic, and arrival time. If I want to go to LaGuardia Airport in the next 15 minutes, I know it should ideally take 30 minutes to get there, but with the 19 minutes of traffic I have been alerted about, I know it will take closer to an hour. ETA doesn’t highlight the exact point where you’ll run into traffic, nor does it offer a multitude of alternate driving routes, but it does give you the information you’ll need to arrive at your destination on time.
