This new Continuity feature allows users to access and engage with their iPhone directly from their Mac, displaying custom wallpaper and app icons just like on iPhone. Users can swipe between pages on the Home Screen, launch and browse favorite apps, and respond to iPhone notifications directly from their Mac. The iPhone remains locked during this process, ensuring privacy and security.
Safari, already the world’s fastest browser, has received significant updates in macOS Sequoia. The new Highlights feature, powered by machine learning, automatically surfaces useful content like directions, article summaries, and quick links.

A redesigned Reader mode offers a streamlined view with summaries and tables of contents, while the new Viewer enhances video playback control.
Distraction Control allows users to hide disruptive elements on webpages for a cleaner browsing experience. macOS Sequoia brings new ways to arrange windows, helping users stay organized. By dragging a window to the edge of the screen, users can automatically place it in a suggested tiled position.
This feature allows quick arrangement of tiles side by side or in corners to keep multiple apps in view.
macOS Sequoia new features overview
New keyboard and menu shortcuts make organizing tiles even faster.
The all-new Passwords app consolidates passwords, passkeys, Wi-Fi passwords, and other credentials in one secure place. It features end-to-end encryption, seamless synchronization across Apple devices and even works with the iCloud for Windows app for broader accessibility. Video calls in FaceTime and third-party apps like Webex will benefit from built-in backgrounds, including color gradients and scenic shots from locations like Apple Park.
Users can also upload their own photos for backgrounds. Enhanced segmentation ensures users look their best on every call, and the presenter preview feature allows users to see what they will share before broadcasting with apps like FaceTime and Zoom. Starting next month, macOS Sequoia will introduce Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligence system that combines generative models with personal context to deliver relevant and useful insights while maintaining user privacy and security.
Available on Macs with M-series chips, Apple Intelligence harnesses Apple silicon and the Neural Engine to enhance language and image understanding, streamline tasks, and provide advanced language capabilities through Siri. macOS Sequoia also brings a host of other updates. In Messages, users can schedule messages to send later and add effects to text messages.
The Notes app now includes audio recording with live transcription and Math Notes for solving mathematical expressions. The Maps app offers topographic maps and a variety of hiking trails across U.S. national parks, along with easy creation of custom walking and hiking routes. macOS Sequoia is a free software update available starting today.
Some features may not be available in all regions or languages.
