Audiobooks brings the most beloved classics to your iPhone for free

Audiobooks works with Librivox, a website that uses volunteers to record readings of books that are no longer under copyright. The books are streamed onto your iPhone and iPod Touch from a wireless hotspot.  At the moment, there are 5154 books in the database and many genres to choose from. The project is alive and new books are added regularly.

Best of all, because none of the works are copyrighted, there’s no cost. It’s a massive amount of content – including classics such as “Dracula” by Bram Stoker and “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” by Mark Twain – made available by people dedicated to literature.

All that content at no cost is reason alone to download this app. Books can simply be downloaded permanently to use the app offline but too many books will slow things down so just download the books you want to listen to. Audiobooks is smart enough to keep track of where the last book played left off, picking up quickly when a stronger connection is available.

The latest version of the app supports Apple Watch, so all important controls can be made from your wrist.

And did we mention it’s free?
