The free Yahoo! Search iPhone app is a modest mobile search engine app with added Search Assist that suggests local search terms as you type. It’s a clear cut search engine with little to no frills.
A handy function with the Yahoo! Search iPhone app brings up (cough) Google map directions and the phone number for restaurants, business and the like that you search for, making the iPhone app perfect for searching and locating on the go. I also like the crisp, clean layout of the search results that frame out profile pictures from social networks when you search your friends’ names. Search results also offer a couple of real-time news results for your search term, which is an added bonus.
While the iPhone app touts voice search for iPhone users, unlike the free Bing iPhone app, Touch users with microphone-capable headphones aren’t able to access the voice search, at least with this release of the app.
And since no iPhone app is complete without the requisite shake function, simply shake to clear the search and return to the main page with your current search history.
Overall, I say this iPhone app is too little too late from Yahoo!, and I’ll stick with Bing as my main mobile search option for iPhone.
