Arguably the Internet’s best how-to guide to everything, wikiHow’s iPhone app (free) contains a wealth of information on just about anything you would want to know how to do.
Yes, you can access wikiHow via Safari, but the wikiHow iPhone app is free and could actually save your life. WikiHow’s best feature is its built-in Survival Kit, which features topics such as, “How to Survive in the Woods,” “How to Survive a Hotel Fire” and “How to Purify Water.” No Internet connection is necessary for the Survival Kit portion of the iPhone app, which means that it could actually help you out in a tough, life-threatening situation. Remember the filmmaker who survived the recent earthquake in Haiti because of an iPhone app? You could easily—but I hope not—find yourself in an equally serious situation with no Internet or phone service available, and the forethought to install an iPhone app such as wikiHow could be the key to survival.
As a bonus, wikiHow includes non-vital how-tos as well. A new instruction guide is featured daily in the iPhone app’s “How-to of the Day” and if you don’t care what you’re about to learn, shake your device for a random article. WikiHow’s only downside is that you can’t create new instructions or edit errors from existing how-tos.
