It looks like Hong Kong got a few iPhone surprises while Android phones prepare to vibrate more than ever before. And if that’s not enough, some new technology from Google can prevent you from getting “Rick Rolled.”
Never be tricked by tiny URLs again
Those of us who don’t do all of our computing via our phones have known the joy of URL image previews for some time now. Rick Roll me? In your dreams.
Now, with the release of Google Instant Preview, mobile users can enjoy the same preview of links before they click into something they can never unsee.
Of course, as Mashable notes, the mobile web viewing experience is a bit different than the desktop experience. Taking the time to slowly connect to a preview URL, especially if you happen to be stuck on the EDGE network for lack of better coverage, would be far worse than seeing something weird and quickly clicking the back button.
Still, no one is forcing you to preview websites, so I have a hard time complaining about an optional feature that should, in theory, make it easier to find the things you’re looking for on the web.
Turn your Android phone into a RumblePak
It’s sort of nice to write a story about vibrating technology that has nothing to do with Northwestern University. In this case, I’m talking about TechCrunch’s preview of Immersion’s MOTIV platform.
MOTIV is technology for your Android phone that aims to use the motor inside it for more enjoyable vibrating features. As the article states, MOTIV could get your phone vibrating along to a song you’re listening to or even providing force feedback in a video game like a console controller.
While the release of the tech doesn’t seem imminent yet, the release of the development kit is. That can only mean that before long, everyone will be finding new and weird way to hold their vibrating Android phones. And that’s not so bad!
That’s a large iPhone you have
Although they haven’t seen release or rumor here, it looks like a few very large (and white!) iPhone 4s have turned up in Hong Kong.
According to TechCrunch, these 64 GB iPhones wouldn’t have been very cost-friendly to release at the moment, but a few were apparently made for testing purposes.
How these wound up in Hong Kong is unclear, but they certainly beg a lot of questions. For starters, why are we still waiting on a white iPhone of any size? Meanwhile a dreamer such as myself just sits on the edge of his seat wondering how long it’s going to take to get an iPhone or iPod Touch to match the size of my 160GB Classic.
