WHERE iPhone app a jack of all trades

If you’re looking for apps that multitask, For its restaurant listings, WHERE pulls in information from CitySearch, including reviews. Within the app, you can provide tips and comments on a location, too, either through a WHERE account or through Facebook connect. FB isn’t required, so it’s a nice option to have if you’re tired of making new credentials for everything you do. Posting anonymously is also possible.

Using the Starbucks icon, WHERE says my nearest Starbucks is across the street from my apartment. Although I wish that was true — I live in a coffee desert, so it’s not. There used to be one a few years ago, so that should be telling that WHERE’s database isn’t the most current. That fact doesn’t make me want to throw the app away, but it would make me pause and double check if I were in unfamiliar territory.

WHERE has some features that probably won’t see much use from me—I see little point in its check-in function, and its conversation portals, “The Pulse,” “Where Wall” and “Sports Wall” are just a bit strange.

But, the free WHERE is certainly worth the download, even if it’s just to checkout the app’s cool 3-D map interface.
