Wave Alarm iPhone app is the wave of the future

I don’t remember a lot good things about the movie adaptation of Minority Report, but one thing I will never forget is all of the time Tom Cruise and Colin Farrell spent waving their hands in front of holographic screens to move them around. That movie came out ten years ago and I’m still waiting to do this with all of my computer screens.

Wave Alarm gets us all a little closer to my dream by letting users set an alarm and silence or snooze it using only a wave of your hand. It works exceptionally well, too. A quick wave or two of your hand in front of your iPhone screen and your alarm is off. It’s easy to set up multiple alarms, as well.

The display is minimalist but has a cool look to it. The time is displayed digitally but as an added style bonus, it is surrounded by a grid that shades in blue as time progresses. There are also picture displays for the time of day and the current temperature.

If there’s a problem with Wave Alarm it’s that, unlike with the built-in iPhone alarms which ring aloud no matter what the iPhone volume is set to, the Wave Alarm will only vibrate if your iPhone is set to silent. For someone who doesn’t want to hear their iPhone chime next to them each time they get a new email or text, this is a bit of a frustrating feature.

Silencing issue aside, Wave Alarm makes for a nice alarm alternative if you want to give something other than the iPhone’s default alarm a shot. And if you’re bored, you can pretend you’re Colin Farrell in Minority Report.
