It seems like every site on the Internet these days requires a user account and password, and if you’re a smart Web surfer that means memorizing a different password for each account. But keeping track of those passwords (Does this site require a special character? Is that site case-sensitive?) will give anyone a headache. Memengo’s Wallet Pro app for iPhone and iPod touch offers a one-stop encrypted shop for storing your passwords, records, secrets and other important information.
Memego provides convenient templates for different types of information, but entering in lots of passwords and account information can become tiresome on iPhone’s relatively small screen and keyboard. Users can set up an account at memengo.com and enter in all information from the comfort of a desktop. The iPhone app can then be synced with memengo.com to download your secret information. It’s also nice to have a backup for your passwords just to be safe.
Currently, an account at memengo.com is free, however, the company plans to start charging for the service in the future. IPhone adopters receive a six-month credit for the service with the purchase of the app.
Wallet Pro uses 256-bit encryption to secure your information, which would be extremely hard for an average hacker to crack. You can sort accounts and passwords into different wallets and encrypt each using a different pass-phrase for extra security. No one at Memengo will have access to your encryption code (your .com password should be different), a relief to be sure, but this also means that it is irretrievable if you forget it –a small chance I’d be willing to take.
