Veggie Bomb iPhone game title tells you all you need to know

Veggie Bomb seems like it should be a lot of fun. The entire game centers on the premise of throwing food at cars and bicycles. So why is it so boring?

The controls seem primarily to blame. Your vegetable weapons are stations in the center of the level, and swiping your finger at various speeds determines how far the vegetable travels. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to gauge how much oomph you need to put on the swipe. If you miss your shot, the reload time is such that you’ll be lucky to get off a second heave just as the car or bike trails off the screen.

So instead of, say, throwing an onslaught of eggs at a passing motorist, you get to throw one head of cauliflower at a car every 15 seconds. That doesn’t make for a thrilling experience.

On the plus side, you get to enjoy this mundane game in a variety of settings. You can throw vegetables at people in a city environment, in the mountains, in the country, on the beach and on a bridge. Nothing really changes, no matter where you’re throwing, but it’s nice to have something new to look at from time to time.

There’s a fun premise here, but it’s not executed in an enjoyable way. Veggie Bomb lives up to its title, but probably not in the way the developers intended.
