But how do other mobile Twitter apps stack up? With Google’s Android platform continuing to gain traction, Twitter apps are among the most populous on both the iPhone and Android devices. Here are some of their top Twitter apps compared,
iPhone Twitter Clients
Tweetie 2 is another iPhone favorite, with several improvements having been made to this $2.99 iPhone app. One such update included support for Twitter Lists, beating TweetDeck to the finish line on that particular feature. Tweetie 2 also has dedicated video upload support, which is something the new TweetDeck is still missing.
Twitterific (free) is a more competitive iPhone app in comparison to the new TweetDeck. With a desktop app, iPhone-specific design and integration, Twitterific and TweetDeck iPhone apps are quite similar. Twitterific already supports some of TweetDeck’s new options, though TweetDeck is offering more personalization around certain features, such as dual re-tweet capabilities.
Echofon, previously known as Twitterfon, also has dedicated video upload and sharing support, unlike the new TweetDeck. With a powerful set of features, Echofon is also free. TweetDeck, also free, has more professional tools to manage and contextualize activity. The “View on Map” feature, for instance, filters tweets based on your location.
Twittelator Pro costs $4.99 for a reason–it is a feature-packed professional tool. Support for multiple accounts, advanced search and save options, offline and draft tweeting, and tweet translations are a few perks with the Twittelator Pro iPhone app. With so many options, however, you may prefer TweetDeck’s free iPhone app over Twittelator Pro based on your needs.
As a social networking app, Twinkle for iPhone has Twitter support, among other things. A useful Twitter interface, however, makes Twinkle worth mentioning, as it simplifies your use of Twitter and makes it a more involved aspect of your overall mobile social networking. For $1.99, Twinkle costs more than the the free TweetDeck, but may be a good supplement to the Twitter-specific iPhone app.
Android Twitter Clients
Twitdroid (free) is considered a top Twitter app for Android devices, with frequent updates keeping it competitive with its iPhone app counterparts. Twitdroid also takes advantage of other apps on the Android device, including Camera integration. Twitdroid PRO, however, has more in common with TweetDeck, including support for multiple accounts.
Swift (free) is another Android favorite, with a dedication to speed. Swift also pushes frequent updates in an effort to keep up with the shifting Twitter needs. Swift has support for following conversations, and also has photo and video upload options. Nevertheless, the free TweetDeck still offers more management functions for serious Twitter users.
CuTewit is considered another useful Twitter app for Android users, but it is rather dismal when compared to TweetDeck. Slower than most apps and buggy at times, CuTewit, fortunately, is free. Its feature set, however, mimics the actual Twitter service, whereas TweetDeck helps you manage all the activity occurring within your Twitter account.
Also free, Twit2go for Android devices brings the major functions of Twitter’s service to your mobile phone. Focused on a clean interface, Twit2go is quite comparable to other Android Twitter apps, though it falls short when likened to established iPhone apps such as TweetDeck.
