This week’s list may seem heavy on updated apps, but that provides a nice opportunity to catch up on all the solid apps you may have missed the first time around. And our top app is no update at all, but rather a standalone version of the photo-uploading feature you may be familiar with if you’re a heavy Twitter user. Either way, there’s a lot to see in this week’s top iOS apps.
Twitpic
Using the Twitpic portion of Twitter apps like Echofon to upload photos isn’t exactly new ground, but now Twitpic has its own app. You can edit their photos with all kinds of filters right from the app and then post them into your Twitter stream. Additionally, Twitpic shows a photo timeline of the photos that have been posted by those you follow. If you’re interested in finding new people to follow, the Twitpic app also lets you see its most popular Twitpic uploaders, so you can know who is uploading the best pictures around.
Grocery iQ
It doesn’t happen often, but occasionally an app update will cause more trouble than joy by removing features that users really used. Grocery iQ recently experienced exactly that, but instead of sticking their head in the sand, the developers have released a new update to bring back features like grocery list history and the ability to save price points for specific items. These returning features have been added back along with a veritable grocery list of other solid items like searchable coupons and barcode scanning to make Grocer iQ a formidable list-making tool.
Carnac the Magnificent
Carnac the Magnificent lets you relive one of the best comedy bits of a bygone era while playing a simple quiz game. Players get the clues to what’s inside Carnac envelopes just like back in the day on The Tonight Show, but in this app version, the player can pick one of three possible punch line questions will be correct based on the answers given. There’s not much more to it than that, but for fans of the old Carson bit, that’s more than enough.
Ban.jo
Want to see what’s going on in California while you’re in Texas? Ban.jo takes the updates from various social networks like Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare and Instagram and lets you see a social map of everything happening at once. Users can perform keyword searches to see how often and where a particular term pops up, or just see a map of what their friends are up to. The app’s recent update added the social mapping feature as well as Facebook photo sharing and an improved search option.
Triposo
Triposo calls itself a travel guide for the whole world, which means it deals in a number of currencies, languages and weather patterns. With the app’s latest update, that sort of information will be front and center on the app’s main screen. Now users will open Triposo to a dashboard featuring a currency converter, weather forecast and useful phrases to say in whatever country you’re currently browsing. There are loads of countries and cities to reference from Afghanistan all the way to Zurich. Serious travelers might finally be able to put down their Lonely Planet guides.
