Turn video into single-frame images with StillShot

If you’ve ever wanted to turn a single frame of video into a photograph, app StillShot for iPhone and iPod Touch is the next app you should pick up. Its simplicity is ideal even for the most technologically unsavvy.

In StillShot, choose a video from your library. The app only works with pre-recorded video, which I like. Once you’ve opened the video, you can scrub through, push play and watch live or swipe through the clip frame by frame. Once you find the perfect second, you can save the frame as a single photo to your camera roll. You can also share the image over Facebook and Twitter but there’s no support for MMS or email here—you’ll have to go to your library to send this way.

I like that StillShot is so easy to use and that saving the frames has no impact on the video. Stills are also saved at original resolution, which means HD video can result in HD photos, too.

I would love StillShot if it was a free app, but at a dollar I wish there were more options for in-app sharing. Yes, sharing from the camera roll is possible, but it’s an unnecessary step when most apps build in this sharing directly. Nevertheless, StillShot works as advertised and will help you turn you video into still photos in mere seconds.
