If you want to translate Bob Dylan’s “Absolutely Sweet Marie” into Bulgarian, then TuneWiki is for you. Beyond procuring the arcane, however, there is not much particularly useful about the iPhone application.
TuneWiki is mainly a way of finding lyrics for songs already on your phone. It will also bring in Shoutcast Radio and provide words for the more popular genres and songs. While some of these features can be fun, the app has too many inconviences to be a worthy download.
For example, you can get scrolling lyrics to any song on your phone (if they’re familiar enough), but you are unable to roll them back. So, you had better catch them the first time around. Also, once a song starts it seems difficult to stop after you navigate away from the play screen. This can make Elton John particularly irksome when you’ve heard enough.
On the plus side, you can easily search You Tube videos that relate, and you can toss in a random lyric and come up with the title. Then you can go easily to the iTunes store and get the song.
If you’re curious enough, you can find out what somebody in Moscow is hearing on TuneWiki through a community map. On the other hand, you are unable to do anything with this information—like hear the same song.
TuneWiki brags that you can change skins to express your personality. This only works if your personality is either gray or pink. On the plus side, it syncs with Facebook and Twitter and will “blip” your friends.
