Track your favorite Oscars nominees with these iPhone apps

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards are upon us. Was your favorite movie, actress or director nominated for an Oscar? Follow all the action of the movie awards season with these “now playing” iPhone apps.

The Academy Awards Bible iPhone app ($2.99) and The Oscars iPhone app ($7.99) both include detailed Oscars information dating back to 1927. All awards are cross referenced by category, year, actor and actress.

Inspired directors, couture-clad actresses, golden statues – award season is bearing down on us once again and it promises to be glitzier than ever.  A good starting point for award season news is the Variety iPhone app (free). It includes a great mix of the latest entertainment headlines, reviews and photos. You might also try the Pocket News – Celebrity iPhone app ($1.99), which is a simple, aesthetically pleasing source for celebrity info.

For a comprehensive award season app, I like aList Movie Awards. It has all the nominations and winners not only for the Academy Awards, but the Golden Globe Awards, the British Academy Film Awards, among others. The 2009 version is still available and free. The 2010 version will be released in January.

The Guess the Movie iPhone app (free) and the Oscars History iPhone app ($1.99) offer users fun and entertaining movie and Oscars trivia. These are best used during long commercial breaks during your Oscars-watching party.

What is missing from the award season-related iPhone apps list? An iPhone app that includes the best (and/or worst acceptance speeches) in modern pop culture history. Who wouldn’t want to see a clip of Roberto Benigni (It’s a Beautiful Life) jump from seat to seat and effusively proclaim his love for America in broken English?
