Cameras come standard on smart phones these days, as do outlets for various social media and sharing sites. The result for the likes of Android devices is a collection of Android apps that help you save, edit, share and protect your phone’s camera content.
Whether you want to add captions or post to Facebook, the Android Market has a good selection of Android apps for you, even if the camera itself isn’t quite up to par.
The Expected
Facebook is great for keeping up with friends and sharing news about yourself, and that often comes in the form of photos. Once you add the free Android app to your phone, it will appear as a sharing option for your phone’s photos. Upload photos directly to your Facebook account, though additional options such as tagging have yet to be included.
To share photos on Twitter, the Twidroid app will do the trick. Photos can be shared from your phone to your Twitter profile through Twidroid, with an attached link and caption. As Twidroid Pro doesn’t really offer any advantages over the free version when it comes to photos, the free version of Twidroid should suffice for photo-sharing.
Though Flickr doesn’t have its own Android app, BetterFlickr for Android lets you upload to Flickr for your photo-sharing needs. At $1.99, the BetterFlickr feature set is specific to Flickr and slightly more inclusive than its free competitors. Such features include group, tag and location search, and activity notifications.
Photobucket for Android is nice because it involves its community features for its free Android app. Upload your own photos, add tags, captions and manage your albums. Search and view others’ albums, and receive alerts for activity from your Photobucket friends. Other settings such as auto-backup are also available.
Professional and Multipurpose Android apps
For an Android app that lets you upload to multiple sites and social networks, there’s PicPush. The idea behind the free Android app is to offer automatic sharing options for your phone’s photos and your favorite social media outlets, from Facebook to SmugMug. Primarily a photo management tool, you’ll also eventually need to buy the full version.
Photo BURST also has social media outlet sharing options with its Android app, but it also comes with a rather robust photo-editing tool. For less than $5, you can get the Pro version, which creates slideshows, has upgraded photo navigation and effects, and improved management for your photos.
For equal or better photo-editing, you’ll also want to try Adobe’s Photoshop Android app. Free, the Photoshop app gives you a mini editor for cropping, touching up, rotating and adding effects to your photos. If you have a Photoshop account, online sharing options are available for sync with Photoshop.com.
Aside from editing your photos, you may want to improve on your camera’s capabilities. The Snap Photo Pro Android app enhances what your Android device’s camera can already do, adding things like timers, extra stability, adjustable brightness and zoom options. For 99 cents, this Android app is worth it for those relying on optimizing their smart phone’s camera.
For added context while you’re on the go, the free Photoflux Android app is for location-based photo browsing. Great for travelers, Photoflux pulls from geocoded Flickr photos to show what others have seen in your very location. Want a virtual vacation? Enter your desired location in the Photoflux Android app and receive a nice set of accompanying photos.
