No other company can capture universal public attention and force droves of tech bloggers and commentators to stop in their tracks like Apple (AAPL). And we love them for it.
At 10 a.m. Eastern Standard Time tomorrow, Apple promises to reveal something new that we’ll all “never forget.” What that actually will be, however, is open to endless debate and speculation. Here are the leading possibilities.
iTunes to offer subscriptions: Ever since Apple acquired music streaming service Lala for about $80 million, the speculation was that the company would use this technology to develop a robust music streaming service consumers can access from the cloud. A wishful thinking Rolling Stone magazine is hoping for an all-you-can-eat $10 monthly access to the entire iTunes music catalog.
This would be news to the music industry, according to All Things Digital.
iTunes access from any iDevice: More likely, but less revolutionary, will be the ability for consumers to access their own iTunes library from any Apple device no matter where they are. While this long-anticipated utility will be welcomed, this alone doesn’t really ring as unforgettable. I guess you’d expect that with 20-hours notice.
iOS 4.2: The most likely candidate, even if the announcement itself would be a bit of a tease. With new operating system releases from Apple, it’s more significant what developer and consumers use with the new technology than what is revealed during its debut.
One more thing…: Of course Apple has a history of revealing things that are truly unforgettable without much advance notice. Whether it be a new line of iPads, news of a Verizon (VZ) iPhone, or something we have yet to fathom, Apple has shown us enough over the years to make sure we’ll be watching.
