The Weekend Adviser for Oct. 10-12

The Appolicious Weekend Adviser for Oct. 10-12
While the developers of the Nobel Laureates app presumably will have a busy weekend incorporating references to its newest member, the rest of us can focus on what apps we would like to award to our collection.

This week in Appolicious, games and lifestyle correspondent Steven Yaccino suggests the Top 10 apps to help David Letterman get out of the dog house. Regardless of whether your are trying to win back the good graces of your significant other, 99-cent Love Tips, iBeg and 1800Flowers (both free)are helpful apps to massage any delicate situation.

On a more serious note, the renewed threat of Swine Flu is requiring us all to pay attention to our surroundings. Having recently overcome a bit of a bug herself, Appolicious scribe Kristen Nicole lends her first-hand knowledge to what apps can best help you fend off the flu. While the 99-cent Swine Flu Facts and the free Swine Flu Tracker Map provide extensive information about the most talked about threat, the free WebMD Mobile, like its web counterpart, remains the most comprehensive source for monitoring any symptoms before you make your doctor’s appointment.

Apps worthy of a pennant
With the Major League Baseball postseason now fully in play, Appolicious sports ace David Lister details his favorite apps to follow every pitch. With its “Quad View” feature that enables you to view multiple vantage points of each game, Major League at Bat 2009 again hit it out of the park and for just under ten bucks is the ultimate source for fans of all levels.  Stats junkies will appreciate the $2.99 FansGraphs Baseball, which provides comprehensive data on every Major League player. Can’t fit that on the back of a card.

More fun and games
Las Vegas is the ultimate haven for games and entertainment. After a recent trip, Kathryn Swartz took enough app insight back from Vegas to explain why you should deal in the $4.99 Vegas Mate for every trip to the Sin City. Swartz also has a few more selections for the casinos, virtual gameplay and getting around town.

Speaking of being sinful, McDonald’s this week brought back its popular Monopoly contest. If you’re not a big fan of the Golden Arches, but would still like a taste of the game, for less than the cost of a value meal you can download the Monopoly app for $4.99.

These apps are heavenly
While many people view the iPhone as a gift from God, there are a handful of apps that also connect you with the word of God. As detailed by Appolicious spirituality correspondent Lou Carlozo, Holy Bible is the best of a number of free apps that bring multiple translations of the Bible to your phone. Scholars will appreciate the $4.99 HebrewBible app, which digs deep into ancient scripture.
