The mystique of the iPhone lifestyle certainly took charge in 2009. And the lure of the iPhone can’t be attributed to the phone part of the device at all. It is more about making your life easier. So whether you have the iPhone or iPod Touch, here are the best free iPhone apps of 2009 that made our lives so much easier!
Six of the iPhone apps from my previous best free iPhone apps list are still tops for 2009. These six iPhone apps helped me through mobile moments all year long. From finding out the up-to-date score of the New Orleans Saints game when the Chicago Bears were depressing me to no end, to updating my Facebook page on the road with photos from a business trip to Miami, these six apps completed my iPhone lifestyle in 2009.
10) ESPN ScoreCenter iPhone app
If you aren’t in your favorite teams’ TV viewing area or you follow lots of teams at once, you’ll love the free ESPN ScoreCenter iPhone app. Set it up to show all your favorite teams scores and their upcoming schedules, all in one convenient iPhone app.
9) Facebook iPhone app
The Facebook iPhone app brought us a way to stay in contact with long-lost college friends and a way to keep mom satisfied with daily pokes. While all those Mafia Wars requests can get a bit annoying, if it means making someone happy, so be it. I’ll be in your Mafia.
8) Photoshop.com iPhone app
The Photoshop.com Mobile iPhone app took sprucing up your latest Facebook profile pic to new levels.
7) Kindle for iPhone app
Why pay hundreds of dollars for the ability to read books on a screen, especially when you can download the free Amazon Kindle iPhone app. I finished the whole Sookie Stackhouse series this year, all from the convenience of my iTouch. The best part? No trees had to die.
6) Pandora Radio iPhone app
This iPhone app, like the original Web site, let’s you listen to whatever type of music you want, no matter where you are. No need to spend hard-earned bucks downloading holiday CDs you only listen to for two weeks — just listen to the holiday channel on Pandora.
5) NPR News iPhone app
And, with the help of the NPR iPhone app, we were all able to keep track of the latest swine flu outbreak.
New to the list and four must-have apps from 2009:
4) Echofon for Twitter iPhone app
While there were many Twitter-centric apps released this year, the only one that stayed on the first page of my Touch all year was the free Echofon iPhone app. In my book, it’s the best free way to tweet.
3) PopSugar Mobile iPhone app
From Tiger’s ho, ho, ho holiday season to the latest Twilight news, I was never in the dark when it came to celebrity news in 2009, thanks to PopSugar and its mobile iPhone app. And, not only does the sugar include celeb gossip, but also fashion, beauty, fitness, tech, home, pet news and more!
2) Bump iPhone app
When you overhear a group of guys at a bachelor party talking about an iPhone app and not the lovely and hot single ladies at the table next to them, you know it has to be a pretty fantastic app. I was intrigued when a bunch of dudes started fist bumping each other with iPhone in hand. Was this some kind of new dude ritual I hadn’t become privy to yet? No, it was the ingenious free Bump iPhone app that allows you to trade contact info with your iPhone toting friends with the bump of a fist.
1) Bing iPhone app
And, the top free app of 2009 goes to the recently released Bing iPhone app. Why, you ask? Maybe because I’m a little sick of all things Google, but mostly because it rocks! The design is eye-pleasing and the functions are dead on. Find movie times, maps and directions, news or look up a business right from the homepage of the app, as well as having the convenience of the typical search window. And, unlike the Google Mobile iPhone app, I can actually use the voice search on the Bing iPhone app with my iTouch by plugging in my earphones complete with microphone.
I’ll be binging and bumping in the New Year! Happy holidays to the Appolicious society and may Santa bring us all a boatload of new free and awesome iPhone apps to download in 2010!
