The motto for the GRAMMYs iPhone app (free) is, “We’re All Fans,” which we may or may not be, but either way, it’s undeniably fun to guess who may win each of the Grammy Awards this year. And once you’ve put in your guesses and submitted your email address, you can invite friends to be part of the challenge as well. After the awards, the results will be emailed to everyone in your group, so you can compare one another’s picks and see where you went right and wrong.
The other interesting feature on this iPhone app is Grammy trivia, which I was surprisingly better at than I thought. It felt just like when you’re super early to a movie and you eat all of your popcorn through the trivia questions they screen before the previews even roll. The trivia segments paused for commercial breaks, advertising a book about either a previous Grammy-winning artist or a Grammy-nominee compilation CD. You’re given a score at the end of your game, and you can opt for another round if you’d like.
Slightly sneaky is the option to buy whatever record you vote for (as well as the ones you skip). It seems when all you’re doing is casting a prediction for who might win an award, you’re not exactly on the shopping prowl, but hey, why not squeeze it in there if you can? If only my vote for Mavis Staples for Best Contemporary Blues Album actually factored into the voting process—now that would be a great iPhone app feature.
