The Blocks Cometh by Halfbot is a $0.99 app that was released only for the iPhone. This retro-styled game is like Doodle Jump on steroids. It’s a much faster game because not only do the platforms disappear the higher you ascend, but you also have to dodge from falling blocks and stairwells. You have shooting capabilities and jumping abilities, but it felt a little cramped in the little space. It would be much better if I could jump off screen onto the other side, much like you can do with Doodle Jump.
If you find yourself stuck, and need to get out, you simply shoot your way out. But be careful, else you’re liable to shoot something that will fall on top of you. It’s a fast game that’s unforgiving. I can see where it could get addicting, but I grew tired of it very quickly. You can play the game with movement controls that take you left or right, or you can simply tilt the iPhone to move the avatar. It takes a little getting used to.
A nice feature is that you can tap anywhere on the screen to restart the game immediately. Otherwise you would have to press “Main Menu,” “Play” and “Play” again.
I didn’t like that I felt trapped in this little space and sometimes would have liked to be able to shoot above me. It’s a fast game, which for me, lasts only a few seconds. I never seem to get any higher than 50 meters.
