For those looking to pay a little extra for volumes of wit in their pocket, the $5.99 app developed by McSweeny’s magazine is a worthy investment. The literary journal publishes iPhone-specific content that, as described by Steven Yaccino, “stands tall as its own handheld primary source for good writing on the go.”
Our own private Olympics
While it is disappointing that the United States was again denied the privilege of hosting an Olympic Games, the iPhone compensates nicely with its choices of virtual competition. Appolicious sports ace David Lister recommends a number of Olympic-themed games for the iPhone including Playman Track & Field and Phonympics, both of which can be downloaded for 99 cents.
After the International Olympic Committee’s head-scratching decision to deny Chicago its bid, its fair to ask if any of the judges – like University of Florida Quarterback Tim Tebow – were suffering from concussions. If so, Lister has a few suggestions of various iPhone apps they can download for the purpose of getting their heads examined.
Don’t expect much if any coverage of future Olympiad’s on the new free ESPN Radio app, which carries audio streams, highlights and on-the-go podcasts from several participating ESPN stations.
