Textionary (free for the ad-supported version) is a collection of both common and rare acronyms that people use in their text messages. If you are a parent who would like to understand what your children are talking about in their text messages, then this app is definitely worth checking out.
There are, of course, some very simple acronyms that most people know well, such as “BRB” or “TTYL”. However, there are some others that are so confusing, you really need an app like this to understand them. TAUMUALU? I’ve never seen that one.
The app groups the acronyms by first letter. So, if you want to look up “BRB” you’ll have to tap the “B” group, then scroll down until you find it. It will then show you the meaning of the acronym. With so many acronyms, it can be a bit frustrating having to scroll through the list to find the one you’re looking for. A search feature would be a welcome addition. It would be much easier to type in “BRB” rather than scrolling.
One other feature that would seem to be a logical addition would be a translator. It would be fun to be able to type in a sentence and have it translated into acronyms. But, as is, Textionary is a useful tool for parents who want to understand what their teenagers are actually saying, or for any teen who would like to brush up on acronym skills.
