Tap into more storage on your iPhone with Microsoft SkyDrive

One of the most reliable and prolific third party developers for iOS is applications, is — you might want to sit down for this — Microsoft.

From Bing, to Photosynth to Skype, Microsoft is distributing “must-have” apps to iPhones in addition to Android and of course its Windows mobile platform.

This week the company brings us SkyDrive, a cloud storage system for videos, photos and other types of documents.

“As people start to rely more on their smartphones, the need to be able to access files on-the-go is important,” said Microsoft’s Mike Torres in a blog post.

With SkyDrive, iPhone users can access files through Microsoft’s OneNote application (synced with SkyDrive) and through SkyDrive create, delete and share folders with others.

No word yet and when or if an Android application will be created.

Explained Torres: “We realize that not everyone who relies on SkyDrive for sharing photos or accessing Office documents uses Windows Phone… yet.”
