If you’ve got too many thoughts floating around your brain, writing them down could take a load off. New app ScatterBrain, for iPhone and iPad, aims to streamline your life by providing a simple, yet functional, place to keep track of your many ideas. Without the ability to export ideas, I don’t know that ScatterBrain will convert users of apps such as Evernote, but I found the interface to be a step above iPhone’s native notes app.
To add a new note in ScatterBrain, users tap the plus sign, enter a title, and type their note. There are different colors available so you can color code your notes for sorting purposes (there’s also a search function). From the main page, you can organized your notes by last modified or by color, which I find very useful, but I didn’t like that you have to tap through all the colors to select the one you like — this should pop up all options, especially since there are only six to choose from.
You’ll be able to see the title and first few lines of your notes on the home screen. If you’re using ScatterBrain as a to-do list, you can swipe to “forget” or delete your thought. I like that all notes can be edited upon opening — no extra screens to go through to modify your text. Considering that ScatterBrain is a writing program, I do have an issue with the lack of support for the landscape keyboard, which I find much more comfortable for composing most everything (and a major reason why this app doesn’t rate higher for me). I also found it a bit strange that the viewing field, when looking at your existing notes, isn’t full-screen. Instead, the last-modified and creation dates take up almost half of the window.
Some users have complained of general buggy-ness in ScatterBrain, but I think it’s worth noting that I found the app to be nothing but stable. ScatterBrain is addressing the issue, however, and has a fix waiting for App Store approval.
