You’ll no longer have to squint at a framed picture hanging on the wall and wonder if it’s level as long as you have your iPhone. The ingenious iHandy Level Free turns your phone or an iPod Touch into a household tool to keep your frames straight.
The iHandy Level is a free offshoot of the $1.99 iHandy Carpenter, which includes the level, a plumb bob, a protractor, surface level and ruler to meausure in inches and centimeters. This utility is especially handy if you, like me, move frequently from apartment to apartment and have no idea which box holds your tool bag.
Operating the level on your iPhone is simple as operating a normal bubble level. Just place the iPhone on a flat surface, like the top of a frame, and the bubble will fill the middle of the level if its straight. If the bubble leans to the left or right, adjust the frame accordingly until the bubble is centered. There’s no need to ask for help. The app makes this a one-person job.
The iHandy Level Free is the most visually appealing of all the level apps available.
But it’s probably not wise to use off this pretty little app to show your friends and family that their photos are a little off-kilter.
