It is officially hurricane season. What is often a fearful time of the year can be made a little less frightening with some knowledge about a given storm. That knowledge can be had, any time, with the Hurricane!) app makes you a mobile storm tracker.
There is a great deal of data that you will see the moment you open this app. Any active storms will appear in a menu for you to choose from, providing you additional data about that storm. The active storms are color-coded so you can see the status of each. There is also a list of Completed storms.
The information provided for each storm is very useful, showing the storm’s current location and its path. You can also see how far you are from an active storm. Other options for storm data include multiple satellite views, expected wind-force probabilities, surface wind fields and forecast models.
If you live in an area that is prone to active hurricanes, the forecast options of the Hurricane iPhone app may be useful to you. Not only do you get forecasting information on each hurricane, but National Hurricane Center bulletins are available directly from this app as well.
The Hurricane app, available from the Apple iTunes Store for $3.99, is great for travelers as well, though an app dedicated to hurricanes may be too specific when there are other more inclusive iPhone weather apps.
