An old adage states that you need to know where you are from to know where you are going. And that applies to the election arena. So we start you off with the US Elections Lite app, which has the dirt on all American elections ever, in chronological order. So if you need to reference who ran for what and when, you have it all in one place.
Now, it’s on to the current stuff. The ElectionCaster app collects all of the top national headlines and presents them in an easy-to-use scrolling list. If you are interested in state and local election news, enter your zip code and you can get that too. Further, it allows you to access the latest polls right on your phone. So if you want to know who is in the lead in the California gubernatorial race, you can check the numbers on Politico, Pollster.com, or RealClearPolitics.
One of CNN Elections Center coolest features is a breakdown of the political makeup of the Senate, House and Gubernatorial seats. Using a nifty graphic, the app depicts how many seats currently controlled by each of the parties is up for reelection, or how many would change hands for one party to control. It is also a great news aggregator with lots of content from CNN’s website and TV shows.
Another great option is Elections ($0.99). It provides locations, dates and candidates for many major gubernatorial and state legislature elections. This app also provides data straight from Gallup and Pollster.com for those who are impatient to know the probable outcome.
For Fox News lovers, there is the America’s Election HQ ($0.99) app, another handy election news aggregator. But the content is in short form, and there are items not to be found on other apps. The app does, however, present a decidedly pro-Republican, pro-Tea Party stance.
California is always an interesting scene, and its elections are no exception. Between Meg Whitman’s illegal nanny, and Jerry Brown’s offensive AIDS statement, there is plenty of fodder for the media folks to feed on. And the CALinnovates: 2010 Elections app captures it all. Dig deep, and you will actually find some quality info, like the pros and cons of the various ballot initiatives.
