Springpad, the popular note-taking app for iOS and Android, just received a significant update today. As Kevin Fitchard of GigaOM writes, this new update takes the simple note-taking aspect of the app and turns it into a more social, Pinterest-like experience. This version 3 update also applies to the Springpad website.
Now you can share notebooks with others, either publicly or privately, just like you can on Evernote. Though this is great for private lists among friends or family, the experience is elevated somewhat when you make your lists public. Now, other users can view them too, so if you find a particular Springpad’s users notes useful you can follow them any time.
According to Springpad’s co-founder and business development VP, Jeff Janer, “Pinterest is focused on inspiration that may lead to a transaction, but there’s not really any collaboration there.” He believes the socially-driven ‘inspiring’ element of Springpad (rather than just driving customers to retail websites) will make the app appealing.
