Splice brings your photographs and movies to life! Within minutes, you can create a video on your phone that you can export to YouTube. At $1.99, it’s a reasonable price for a basic video editor. What I liked about the app was that it was very intuitive. You don’t need to read a tutorial to figure out how to complete a project. It’s set up in a straight-forward style with tracks laid out in rows. The sound FX library comes with about 18 basic sounds. If you want to add music, you can choose from the two songs that come with Splice or choose a song from your iPod.
Another nice feature is that you can also adjust the volume on all of your audio and video tracks. With a swipe of your finger, you can sync your video with your audio by moving the tracks along the timeline. The player head can also be dragged, and your video will play in preview as you see where to put your FX. You can use Apple’s trim feature within the program if you still need to edit the video.
It has all the features you’ll need to create videos on the spot. It allows you to choose either photographs or clips that you have on your iPhone. The layout is very efficient, and allows you to add music from either the Splice library or iTunes.
There are some drawbacks to the app. You can only have one audio and video track in your project. The audio does allow you to add a voice track, music and sound FX to each project, however. Splice only provides two music tracks and six transition effects. There are other apps in the iTunes store that provide more, but that are also more expensive. If you want a basic video-editing app that does a very good job, then you’ll love Splice!
