Spin Mobile will keep you rockin’ for a while

For fans of Spin Magazine, the Spin Mobile app might just be a bit like falling down a rabbit hole. It’s very easy to doink around with the interface, check out music news, reviews, video and audio clips only to find yourself still happily staring at the screen hours later.

Spin Mobile claims to update its content frequently, promising concert reviews “hours after the concert” and photo galleries geared for the application.

The reading interface is infinitely easier to use than the Web site when reading it through safari and the integration with iTunes and the iPhone capabilities is quite elegant in spots. Photo galleries allow you to flip through high-resolution pictures, pull up extensive “captions” that are more like articles and go directly to iTunes to download albums.

While the ease of interaction and downloading makes good common sense, once you’ve listened to a clip on iTunes or downloaded an album, you are basically stuck in the iTunes interface with contents that are nowhere near as compelling as the Spin review archives.

On a recent test run, I got sucked into a couple of cool photo galleries on the Chicago music scene and the white soulboy invasion, listened to clips of exciting new acts such as crooner Mayer Hawthorne and ended up downloading the latest album from the White Rabbits.

Two hours later, I emerged bleary eyed and happy. This is a solid free app for rock fans.
