Social Media Reaction to Apple’s iPhone 4 Press Conference

Apple’s fans and foes alike shared their reactions to Steve Jobs’ press conference all over Twitter. Here is a rundown of the best and snarkiest that were tweeted in 140 characters or less.

As the press conference begins

Apple’s revolutionary apology would not be televised as tech podcaster Leo Laporte reported that CNET’s videographer was turned away at the door. At least there was some time to play name that tune.

leoleporte:

C|Net camera crew kicked out of Apple press conference. No video cameras allowed. Apple’s slide to the darkside is complete

Digeratii

Sources say that the music being played before the keynote is “I’m So Sorry” by The Smiths.

Steve Jobs on stage…Like he’d leave it up to someone else…

Steve finally speaks

A defensive Steve Jobs tried to explain that all smartphones experience reception problems if held the wrong way. His defensive explanation of imperfection drew the perfect storm on Twitter.

Jobs: “We’re not perfect. Phones aren’t perfect. We know that, you know that.” http://live.gizmodo.com

gartenberg

3 million phones in three weeks.

JimMacMillan

I hate Apple news days because my RSS feeds will be slammed with things we already know.

erickschonfeld

“If you dont like the iPhone 4, don’t buy it. If you bought one and don’t like it, bring it back” http://tcrn.ch/9JyF1O kinda catchy

i_Enthusiast

Okay Steve, We know it happens on other phones too but how are you going to fix my iPhone 4?? =]

Phonedog_Noah

blackberry, samsung, h tee c / apple says “you guys suck, too!” that’s what they’re sayin’ to me

JackLoftus

That said, this is a weird press conference. Strange vibe, comments. Q&A should be…interesting?

andyeb

Dear Apple – you are welcome round at my house any time to measure call drop rates ;-p

jrohland

Hah I knew it was above Steve Jobs to apologize for releasing a flawed product. Let’s call a press conference to criticize other phones!

toddbarnard

Hear that? It’s Apple’s sacrosanct credibility coming to an end. ( and they’ve come full circle by acting just like IBM used to in the 80s )

parislemon

Apple tests the iPhone in the Professor X brain scan room apparently.

alexco

#antennagate over blown. Anechoic chambers look cool and are a boom to the foam industry.

ejoep

Whoa. Now all the manufacturers will be whipping out their anechoic chamber porn.

Phonedog_Noah

Don’t like iPhone, just bring it back! / Don’t like iPhone, just bring it back! / U gots ur 30 days

om

I can’t believe how hot it is in cupertino. Much like under apple’s collar

kevinmarks

Jobs: guess what, people who have reception issues can’t call our support hotline, it’s win-win: http://bit.ly/bCKhQz

blipsman

You get a bumper! And you get a bumper! A bumper for you! And you! #iPhone4

tariqkrim

apple mastermind marketing at work how to make bad look good hopefully jobs is not working for BP

cullenw

I’m still holding out for a “One more thing…. JUST KIDDING! NO FREE CASES!”.

The verdict is in…

Free bumpers for all and a trace of humility from Steve Jobs was all it took to get the fanboys and girls back on Apple’s side. It helps that so may enthusiasts don’t really use the iPhone to make calls.

nateFLAraley

Free bumpers. I’m fine with that. Can we move on now? #antennagate

oscarfeliciano

So, Mr. Jobs, what about those of us who don’t use cases & prefer either naked phones or protective films?

CraicDesign

Man, now Uncle Steve is making me feel bad, because those jerks said his phone wasn’t working. Seriously, Apple are SO good at this stuff.

phillryu

this is a bravura performance in spin. clap clap.

marshallk

I would like to discuss the finer points of bumpers vs. cases, who’s with me? #wantlast30minsofmylifeback

MacworldUK

Jobs: We’ve been trying to understand this so when we solve it, we really solve it, not slap a band-aid on it.” <- which would work btw

Kenseto

Good point RT @bgilham RT @thody: I’d probably care more if I used my phone to make calls.
