In the strongest indication yet that Apple will be introducing a smaller and cheaper iPad by year-end, the New York Times is citing multiple sources who are saying that a 7.85-inch tablet is imminent.
The new tablet would be part of Apple’s textbook strategy, the New York Times report suggests, where the company is trying to flood the market with multiple options at a variety of price points.
“The idea is to help Apple solidify its dominance in the tablet market even as the richest companies in the tech business are trying to figure out how to outflank Apple,” wrote reporters Nick Bilton and Nick Wingfield.
Google released arguably its most formidable tablet device last week in the Nexus 7. Microsoft is also planning to debut its Surface device later this year, while Amazon is known to be working on a smaller Kindle Fire tablet.
Stay tuned.
